Lane Hall combines his skill with pencil and long history in watercolor to bring high drama as well as a painterly quality to the graphite medium. Loose, yet representational with bold focal points and exciting discoveries, his Southwest scenes reveal a bold palette of layering values over a gesso texture. The result brings a rugged beauty of the desert into the room to explore.
      “I put myself there and get lost in the textures. I can smell the juniper, wonder what’s in a mountain crag, and yet there’s a mystery that’s hard to explain”, Lane says of his passion for painting desert scenes.
       Lane received his Fine Arts Degree from Southern Oregon State College in 1986. Since then he has won numerous awards, earning Platinum Membership in the Watercolor Society of Oregon. Hall was an award winner at the San Diego Watercolor Society’s Annual Exhibit in 2004. His watercolor ‘Subtlety’ was chosen as the invitation cover for the Watercolor and Pastel Exhibition in Bend, Oregon in 2004. North Light Books recently published his work in their volume “Strokes of Genius 2; The Best of Drawing Light and Shadow”.
